LOUREIRO, Luciana Drumond; SOUZA, Luciane Zanin de  e  FLORIO, Flávia Martão. EVALUATION OF THE INTERFERENCE OF AN EDUCATIONAL APPROACH ON THE USE OF SMARTPHONE BY MASTERS IN THE HEALTH AREA. ETD - Educ. Temat. Digit. [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.4, pp.843-862. ISSN 1676-2592.  https://doi.org/10.20396/etd.v23i4.8658174.

The aim of this longitudinal experimental study was to evaluate the interference of an educational approach in the pattern of smartphone use and internet addiction by master's students in the health field. The sample consisted of 18 master's students in Public Health. A smartphone application (UBhind) was used that verified the pattern of use of this and two questionnaires: socioeconomic and the Internet Addiction Test (IAT). Data were collected in the classroom at three different times (T0, T1, T2). At the beginning of the T1 class module, there was an educational approach on smartphone use, risk of internet addiction and losses. Descriptive analyzes were performed for variables and generalized linear models for repeated measures over time, significance level of 5%. We found: average smartphone use of 4.4h (T0), 4h (T1) and 4.5h (T2); checking frequency of 92.3 times (T0), 86.3 (T1) and 90.5 (T2); peak use at night; and, on smartphones (Android), WhatsApp was the most used application, totaling 45% of the time on the smartphone, while the minimum internet use represented 75%. The IAT increased from 42.9% (T0) to 50% (T2) of users without risk of addiction, however, the percentage of problematic users (medium and high risk) remained at 14.3%. It was concluded that the educational approach used was not enough to change the pattern of smartphone use or to reduce the number of problematic internet users.
