The scope of this work is to investigate how the academic field has responded to the recent growth phenomenon of biographical writing in Brazil, casting a glance at the publications carried out by university presses the Northeast identifying its links with researchers, lines or research groups of postgraduate programs Postgraduate in history and education. The study is characterized as qualitative research with interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological contributions from the fields of history and education in the study of multiple case mode. The findings point to the plurality of biographical subjects and topics addressed in which the trend of biographies related to the male gender prevails. Chronological approaches and the construction of linear narratives predominate. The books point to a field of biography that is still emerging in the Northeast, but which presents rich contributions, a fact that seems to confirm that today is a moment of democratization of biography.
