This article, an excerpt from ongoing research in the Postgraduate Program in Education at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul – Campus Pantanal, discusses data collected at the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations and on the website of that program. From the search, which used 26 descriptors - isolated and crossed -, resulted in the selection of 26 works, whose organization and analysis were carried out with the approach of a study of the state of knowledge type. The results indicate that, although there is an increase in the number of investigations that seek to listen to children, there are still few studies with children of preschool age. We emphasize that there were no studies carried out considering children as collaborators in the elaboration of the research, nor with the objective of listening to rural settlement children. It is worth mentioning the fact that, although the selected works affirm the need for listening to the child, the majority seek other sources of complementary information (from adults) to compose the data.
