Abstract

This paper presents the research that investigates the materiality and the reinvention of Freire's legacy, today, in public spaces of education in the Brazilian reality. Having as it’s source context the Paulo Freire Cathedra at Pontifical Catholic University (PUC-SP), this research has been carried out, with support from CNPq, by researchers from 14 programs Graduate Education Programs in 10 Brazilian states. This article describes the process and the results of the 2nd edition of this investigation, developed in the period 2012 to 2015. The framework of this research is the Freire's pedagogy, especially the four axes that guided the educational policy of the Paulo Freire’s managment in São Paulo (1989-1992): curriculum, democratic management, permanente teacher education and adult education. Two lines of work have been defined for the data production. The first was characterized by analysis of dissertations and theses performed with, and from, Freire's references. The second was the development of empirical research. With a qualitative approach, the methodology included the modalities case study and action-research. This article summarizes the results of these studies, coordinated by the members of the research team. The investigation results showed that the thought of Paulo Freire still alive and flourishing, offering outstanding contributions to educational policies and practices. The Freire's pedagogy penetrates in different areas and sub-areas of knowledge and alongates itself in different fields of study, approaching contemporary issues.
