This paper presents the results of a study that investigated the process of continuing education of teachers in the Youth and Adult Education program in the municipality of Chapecó from 1997-2004. The process was based on Freire’s concepts of education, during the Movement for Curriculum Reorientation of the Municipal School System. The objectives of the research include indicating limits and opportunities for the continuing education of teachers. It is a qualitative study that used a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with teachers and coordinators in the Youth and Adult Education programs as data collection tools. The analysis indicated that the continued education program allowed the teachers to incorporate Freire’sconcepts in their teaching. The research data also indicate limits and difficulties faced in the implementation of the education process, such as resistance to change by the part of some teachers and the way that the proposal was implemented by administrators.
