ASSUMPCAO, Raiane Patrícia Severino  y  LEONARDI, Fabricio Leonardi. Popular education in the university - constructing from contradictions, reflections and experiences of the pet popular education in the UNIFESP- Santos Campus. e-Curriculum [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.2, pp.437-462. This article promotes a reflection on the contribution and inclusion of Popular Education at the University by discussing it with the members of PET (Tutorial Education Program) Popular Education: "creating and recreating social reality" of UNIFESP-Santos Campus. The research sought to problematize the subjects' perception and opinions, taking into account the description and discussion of the theoretical and methodological process of popular education, their inclusion in university spaces, and the work done by this group, in order to evaluate, by their own arguments, if the recognition of Popular Education really exists in the academic space, and by what means. The analysis identified the possibility Popular Education within the university space in the context of twenty-first century, and it became evident that Popular Education can exist and be maintained within the Brazilian public University due to the own contradictory nature of this institution; an institution that recognizes various achievements of social rights movements, of democracy policies, and the claim for equality in opportunities for the popular classes. But, at the same time, an institution that reaffirms its institutional culture and practices that are most suitable to the historically hegemonic social model. Therefore, the public university is still a space to be effectively conquered by the popular classes and in this sense, although not very well recognized, Popular Education within the university space has contributed permanently to the public university, in causing it to take commitments to the population that has been historically separated from this space conceived as a producer of knowledge.
