Abstract

PALUDO, Conceição; SANTOS, Magda Gisela Cruz dos  and  TADDEI, Paulo Eduardo Dias. Popular education in the levante popular da juventude (RS, Brazil): renewal and continuity. e-Curriculum [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.2, pp.545-571. ISSN 1809-3876.  https://doi.org/10.23925/1809-3876.2016v14i2p0545.

This article, part of a larger research, presents an evaluation of Popular Education (PE) practices in the formation process of Levante Popular da Juventude (Popular Rising of the Youth) in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). We tried to understand how PE is defined and experienced in this social movement. Our theoretic and methodological references are based on historical-dialectical materialism, and applied by means of bibliographical research, documental analysis and semi-structured interviews. The analysis of the results allowed us to conclude that the formative practices of the Levante possesses characteristics similar to those of the so-called new social movements but still keeping some theoretical alignments with the Marxist perspective of popular demand, with some central concepts as social classes and the popular project. Experimentation, in the Levante, is prioritized on everyday practices; and it can be understood as autonomy, protagonism, organization, and confront activities and experiences based on human values. Within this constant movement is where the formative process of the youth happens, and there it becomes clear that theoretical formation occupies a secondary position. This constitutes a great challenge for the qualifying of the interventions of the movement itself.
