Abstract

LUPEPSO, Marina; MEYER, Patrícia  and  VOSGERAU, Dilmeire S. R.. Open educational resources: potentials and challenges in higher education. e-Curriculum [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.3, pp.1151-1178. ISSN 1809-3876.  https://doi.org/10.23925/1809-3876.2016v14i3p1151.

Among the challenges of teaching in higher education are the transformations caused by information and communication technologies (ICT), being one of its effects the proliferation of sources, spaces and environments of production and socialization of knowledge. This article presents a systematic review in order to investigate the possibilities and the challenges in the use of open education resources (OER) in higher education. Thirteen articles extracted from the databases of Eric and Ebsco published between 2002 and 2015 were analyzed, selected from the keywords higher education + open educational + creative commons. The elements found in the researches related to the potentials and the challenges were classified into three categories of analysis: knowledge - which consists of characteristics related to the level of participants knowledge regarding the REA and its incorporation into teaching; instrumental/operational - which implies issues surrounding the use of tools, management costs, course and professional development; and use or elements involving the use of OER, including accessibility, prospecting of new approaches, the application of ICT and academic quality like a factor for greater use of OER. The study allowed the design of a concept of OER understood as digital resources devoted to educational purposes, through the use of open and adaptable licenses. It was possible to infer that the OER potentials are geared to their application in educational practices in higher education, improving processes and integrating them to ICT. As for the challenges, the focus is on the difficulties related to the use of OER, converging with technological, cultural and educational aspects, showing lack of awareness, domain and unfamiliarity.

Keywords : Higher Education; Educational Technology; Open Educational Resources; Systematic Review.
