This study discuss the interpretation of history texts and critical historical awareness. It aims to consider how 8th grade students interpret history written texts and perform the process of development of their critical historical awareness. A collaborative research was carried out as method and the procedures applied were the observation of the reality and portfolio. The students successfully performed the interpretation of the history texts and showed that they are, currently, in a process of development of their own critical historical awareness. The research performed may contribute to the resignification of the roles of the teachers and students in the history teaching-learning process.
