Abstract

ZUKOWSKI-TAVARES, Cristina; FERNANDES, Ana Angélica Pereira  and  LUZ, Edgard Leonel. Brazilian teaching profile and TALIS report: the case of a confessional teaching network. e-Curriculum [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.3, pp.693-712. ISSN 1809-3876.  https://doi.org/10.23925/1809-3876.2017v15i3p693-712.

The study aimed to discuss the profile of elementary school teachers in a confessional teaching network in interface with national and international reports. The data collection instrument was a closed questionnaire with 30 items applied to teachers in the 5th and 9th years, having as organizational axes socio-demographic data, initial / continuous training and pedagogical practice developed. The research network technically divided the country into 8 regions, 52 associations and 312 schools of Basic Education and had 868 teachers responding to the questionnaire in 2013. A cut of the results on the profile of these teachers (age group, gender, initial formation and time Of teaching) were discussed in the light of the Brazilian School Census and the TALIS 2013 report, a focus on teachers, which is the International Research on Teaching and Learning International Survey in primary education schools in different countries. The results confirm the TALIS report that teachers in private networks tend to be younger than their peers in public networks and that the teaching profession in primary education is still essentially female. Full teacher training in higher education is high (92%) and occurs in the private network (70%). The teacher's work time seemed to influence student proficiency on the PAAEB exam. It is concluded that the joint responsibility of educational results is essential in the continuous commitment to the construction of plural curricula and citizens together with the support for the professionalization and valorization of the teaching career.
