This article presents results of a research focusing on the training of professors for online teaching, the teaching profile and the challenges that professors have faced in transposing their classroom practices to the online environment. A quantitative research method was used, in a descriptive study where an online survey was used as an instrument of data collection. This was applied to teachers who conducted online teaching activities in higher education institutions, in Brazil and in Portugal. The study involved a random sample of 277 university professors, 236 from Brazil and 41 from Portugal. Descriptive statistical analyzes were performed, using the SPSS 26.0 software, to assess the differences between teachers of both nationalities. Based on the results obtained, it was found that there are no major statistically significant differences between online professors in the Portuguese and Brazilian context.
