This study aimed to analyze the representations of seven professors from public universities in the State of São Paulo in relation to the main challenges for the professional insertion of Physical Education teachers at the beginning of their careers at schools. The data obtained in the interviews were submitted to Content Analysis, resulting in two categories: “Considerations about the lack of monitoring of graduates in their professional insertion as a Physical Education teacher" and "Perspectives about the discrepancy between training and professional practice for the beginner teacher in Physical Education". The educators recognized a distance between training and professional insertion, which strongly affects teachers at the beginning of their careers. Follow-up policies for the insertion of teachers are necessary, which is a challenge for universities, schools and public policies nowadays.
