This work aims to narrate investigative paths of training and teaching practices involving the Nova Almeida’s congo, in search of historically reconstituting it as an element of local culture and analyzing its meanings for the community, through memories and school practices. It dialogues with historical testimonies (BLOCH, 2001), cultural artifacts and (auto)biographical records of formative experiences (JOSSO, 2004). In the wake of a culturally oriented curricular practice (NEIRA, 2018), it indicates, by the theme of the congo, the possibility of producing initiatives that, starting from the local culture, place the school as a community. It also reaffirms the fertility of histories and memories that produce collective processes of formation and practices that consider local knowledge.
