Abstract

SILVA, Roberto Cardoso Freire da  and  CARVALHO, Jaciara de Sá. Algorithms and Fake News:. e-Curriculum [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.4, pp.1826-1847.  Epub Jan 30, 2023. ISSN 1809-3876.  https://doi.org/10.23925/1809-3876.2022v20i4p1826-1847.

Digital technologies shape societies and contribute to the constitution of understandings about the realities and relationships by individuals. In an almost invisible way, they promote the values and worldviews of those who design them, from large corporations’ owners to young IT professionals. From this context, this work presents a survey involving IT undergraduates about the Fake News phenomenon and the expansion of the use of computational algorithms in several human activities. The theoretical framework adopted brings authors from the technology area and from a critical perspective of education. The research findings suggest that the specific education of these future professionals does not necessarily imply a complex view of the consequences of technologies for societies, bringing them closer to common sense.

Keywords : digital technologies; information systems; misinformation; undergraduate education; emancipatory education.
