Abstract

SANTOS, Elzanir dos. Initial Challenges and Ways of Learnig How To Be a University Teacher: What do the Academic Memorials tell?. e-Curriculum [online]. 2023, vol.21, e59457.  Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 1809-3876.  https://doi.org/10.23925/1809-3876.2023v21e59457.

The present article focuses on the results of a research that aimed at analyzing university professors´ identity constructions, based on narratives which were presented in memorials, elaborated for career progression. As to their focus they concerned the beginning of the teaching activity, the teachers´ professional choice context, their initial challenges, as well as the learning as we consider being a teacher and doing as a teacher. Its theoretical-methodological contribution was based on the autobiographical approach, considering authors such as Passeggi (2008, 2010); Josso (2004), Delory-Momberguer (2012, 2016). In the self-writings, loneliness and the lack of pedagogical preparation stand out as difficulties that are imposed in the beginning of the teaching trajectory; in terms of learning about being and doing, continuing education, relationships with students, authors and professors/teachers are emphasized as a possibility for learning opportunities in terms of teaching, research and guidance.

Keywords : memorials; narratives; identity processes; university teaching.
