Abstract

STOEBERL, Cristiane Aparecida  and  VIEIRA, Alboni Marisa Dudeque Pianovski. Dr Korczak's 200 children: cinema as a pedagogical tool for human rights education in higher education. e-Curriculum [online]. 2024, vol.22, e59974.  Epub Jan 31, 2025. ISSN 1809-3876.  https://doi.org/10.23925/1809-3876.2024v22e59974.

This research aims to analyse how cinema, through the use of the film The 200 Children of Dr Korczak as a pedagogical tool, can contribute to human rights education in higher education in order to combat racial discrimination. The research is bibliographical and documental, with a qualitative approach. The results obtained lead to the conclusion that cinema is a pedagogical tool that contributes to building students' subjectivities and raising awareness of human rights issues, which should be dealt with in a transversal way. The film, by showing the drama experienced by orphaned Jewish children persecuted by the Nazis, as well s Korczak's determination and humanism in protecting them from the dehumanisation, leads students to reflect on the consequences of the banality of evil and racial discrimination present in society.

Keywords : human rights education; higher education; cinema; Janusz Korczak.
