Abstract

BUARQUE, Pedro  and  CARVALHO, Maria Inez. Cleaved word: reality, ideology and word in Paulo Freire. e-Curriculum [online]. 2025, vol.23, e61691.  Epub May 20, 2025. ISSN 1809-3876.  https://doi.org/10.23925/1809-3876.2025v23e61691.

Through a performative interpretation of Paulo Freire’s works ‘Pedagogy of the Oppressed’ and ‘Pedagogy of Autonomy’, this theoretical study aimed to problematize the relationship between word, reality, and ideology, considering the presentation of the latter as both a false consciousness of reality and a people’s worldview. For this purpose, thinkers who influenced the construction of Freirean thought are revisited, such as Martin Heidegger, Karl Jaspers, and Álvaro Vieira Pinto, particularly regarding notions such as representation, limit-situation, and limit-act, which are fundamental to the relationship in question. Based on the aporias present in this relationship, it was possible to update the issue by approaching thinkers such as Roland Barthes, Alain Badiou, and Ernesto Laclau, especially concerning the understanding of truth in the word as a rupture of the limits of representation of our reality.

Keywords : Paulo Freire; word; reality; ideology; representation.
