We aimed to analyze the field of teacher education in Brazil in interface with current public educational policies with a focus on Teachers Professional Development (TPD). This is a theoretical essay in which the path seeks to critically discuss, in this scenario of reopening of political debate, the documents of BNC - Teacher Education and BNC - Continuing Education. The results indicate that representations of DPD are limited to individualization processes, which are rooted in the subject's own perspective of taking responsibility for their development, leaving little space for collective processes of interaction and professional socialization. This perspective can contribute to competitiveness and meritocracy processes. Therefore, it is essential to deepen understanding of DPD with a view to fostering new perspectives based on collective and democratic work.
