This article aims to characterize the historical trajectory of public policies for teacher training over the last three decades in Brazil, culminating with the BNC-Formation; and investigate the repercussions of BNC-Formation in the context of educational scientific production in Brazil. It is guided by the following guiding question: what are the repercussions of BNC-Formation in the context of educational scientific production in Brazil? The research, with a qualitative approach, is the result of systematic literature review and the critical reading is permeated by the ideas of authors of Historical-Critical Pedagogy. The analyses show that the historical context of public education policy in Brazil since 1990 indicates that the approval of the BNC-Formation is part of an agenda in which neoliberal interests have prevailed for teacher training, signaling the return of competencies’pedagogy.
