Abstract

This paper aims at analyzing representations of the teaching of literature in three different films: 'Dangerous Minds', 'Finding Forrester' (both Hollywood productions) and 'Il Postino' (an Italian production). From an investigation of the main concepts of literature, the relationships between literature and films and the different concepts of literature teaching, the author analyzes selected scenes from the films aiming at identifying both the coincidences and differences in their representations. It examines the role of the teacher in the process of introducing students to the literary world, the relationship between this world and their day-to-day lives, and the connection between this literary world and the students' writings. In a broader perspective, the paper proposes the possibilities of exploring the cinema in the teaching literature.
