Abstract This article discusses the bourgeois thought which emerged before the classic period of liberalism with the production of the bourgeois school constituted at the modern time, in the background. Based on Wolfgang Ratke’s writings it searches to answer the following questions: what can be placed as more advanced, in the production of material life, in the use of human labour, in order to relate the functions of the school with the necessities of society? What of really new has been starting for society and education, in the beginning of the bourgeois social movements?
