This paper proposes a reflection on the relation between ethics and research. It starts presenting the background of the academic research in Brazil. Next, a relationship is established between instrumental rationality, which rules sciences and technology, and the ethics dimension of human action. Also, a discussion is proposed about the paradox of an ethics which is at the same time necessary and impossible. The conclusion invites to the dialogical procedure as an ethical foundation perspective in the research area.
