Abstract

RUCKSTADTER, Flávio Massami Martins  and  SKALINSKI JUNIOR, Oriomar. The texts of Fr. Serafim Leite (S. J.) in the Journal of the Historical and Geographical Brazilian Institute: a formative project focused in the Catholic nation idea. Práxis Educativa [online]. 2017, vol.12, n.1, pp.64-82. ISSN 1809-4309.  https://doi.org/10.5212/PraxEduc.v.12i1.0004.

This paper has as subject the defense of a project of nation centered on the Catholicism, present on the thought of the Portuguese-Brazilian intellectual Serafim Leite (1890-1969). It selects as main sources the four texts published by the priest on the Brazilian Historic Geographic Institute Review, between 1944 and 1964. The aim is to discuss the existing formative project in Serafim Leite's texts, situating it in relation to the Brazilian nation and nationality plan formulated by IHGB, during the 19th century. The analysis uses the references elaborated by Antonio Gramsci to understand, from Serafim Leite's publications and defense of a nation project supported on the Catholicism, the role of the intellectuals as culture organizers, especially on the construction of hegemony.

Keywords : Serafim Leite; IHGB; Formative project.
