The paper is the result of an empiric research and of theoretical reflections based on the concept of cultural capital from Pierre Bourdieu (1966, 1979, 2011), but it also dialogs with other authors. The objective is to deepen the constitutive elements of the cultural capital from the sociocultural and economic conditions of pedagogy students. Empirically, the paper is supported in data from a semi-open questionnaire applied, in 2015, with 427 students of pedagogy in an institution of higher education at the north of “Rio Grande do Sul”. The paper problematizes the concept of cultural capital and its relations with the economic and the social capital; analyzes some empirical data of the research and concludes reaffirming the thesis about the low cultural capital predominating among the students, which translates into difficulties in studying and in a limited cultural formation to deal with the emerging challenges in the complex school and social contexts.
