This article describes the relationship between professional training and the achievement of the objective of dignified and productive work. It sets out to divulge a framework which includes the Objectives of Development of the Millenium and the tools of ILO, among which are the conclusions of the International Labour Conference (2000) and the World Agreement for Employment (2009). It analyses the fundamental role of training to upgrade work competencies and the role of institutions of vocational training in the Latin American and Caribbean region due to its predominant characteristic of being a scenario of social dialogue. Finally it presents the organization and the objectives of ILO/Cinterfor, focuses on the commitment of member institutions stated in the Chart of Brasilia in 2009, jointly with the support of the training strategy requested from ILO by the G20.
