In this paper, we present considerations about the analysis of official documents for the secondary school level (Orientações Curriculares para o Ensino Médio OCEM, 2006; and Catálogo do Programa Nacional do Livro para o Ensino Médio/PNLEM, 2009), these considerations are part of the research project “Oralidade em documentos oficiais e livros didáticos: novas investigações” (Orality in official documents and textbooks: new research). The work focuses on orality. We intend, through theoretical and documental research, to verify what conceptions of orality applied to teaching these documents contain. From the data analysis, we have observed disagreements in the conceptions transmitted by these documents. In this regard, the research reveals a perpetuation of the supremacy of writing in schools, a reflection of what happens in our society today, going against the requirements identified as priorities in the development of oral proficiency in students.
