Abstract

The article proposes a reflection on the main concepts of Davydov’s theory of activity and developmental teaching, inscribed in the tradition of soviet historical-cultural psychology, and its contributions to the teaching of natural sciences in the early years of elementary school, with the aim of assuring quality teaching in the beginning of a child’s scientific education. To this end, we articulate the psychological principles of this theory with the historical constitution and the curriculum of science education for children in Brazilian schools, and with issues related to teacher training for science education in undergraduate courses in education.
