This article presents an analysis of the presence and footsteps of Paulo Freire in Distrito Federal, the Brazilian Federal District, which comprises Brasília, the capital of Brazil, and its surrounding satellite cities. A historical and documentary research method is adopted in search of indicators of his work and influence as an educator in this region. The study is organized in chronological order and gives special attention to three specific times when he was in Distrito Federal: the beginning of the 1960s and the decades of 1980 e 1990. It also briefly points out the currency of his thinking. At the same time as it investigates his educational “footsteps”, this study presents how his conceptions have been incorporated in educational practice and in teacher education, nourishing dreams and projects of construction of a more democratic society.
