This article proposes a brief reflection on the United Nations Educational, Scientifc and Cultural Organization (Unesco), based on the understanding of education seen in its official reports. The theoretical framework adopted for the proposed reflection is based, mostly, to the concepts of the Aristotelian paideia and its concern with the education of the citizen of the polis. As education in classical Greece promoted ethics, the affirmation of what is human and the importance of collective life, in this study it has become indispensable for broadening the vision of the meaning of education in the beginning of the 21st century.
