Discussions about compulsory basic education have become more intense and complex with the establishment of compulsory basic education for children aged four to seventeen. This article is the result of theoretical research on legal frameworks recently established in early childhood education, and publications that deal with this theme. It aims at analyzing the reasons that led to the requirement of these legislative structures, and think over their potential impacts on early childhood education. An overview of the possible unfoldment of the current legislation for early childhood education was traced, thus contributing to future discussions.
