Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the influence of prosodic aspects on comprehension of the spoken language and the relationship between this understanding and reading comprehension. The participants were 79 students from 7 to 11 years old, 39 of the 3rd grade and 40 of the 5th grade of basic education. The collected data showed, in listening comprehension capacity, the younger children and with lower education levels were more dependent on prosodic aspects. The older children and with higher education showed better performance on the reading comprehension on (Cloze). It was confirmed a relationship between the comprehension of spoken language and reading understanding among students in the early years.
