The article presents the concept of developmental didactics and discusses its relevance to teaching-learning practices in the Brazilian context. The developmental didactics represents an important reference for Brazilian educators for teaching practices as opposed to the results-based school education model. It begins with a reference to the constitution and implantation of the Elkonin-Davydov Teaching System in Russia, followed by the presentation of Davydov's theory, especially its principles and elements that support a developmental didactics. Finally, the contributions of developmental didactics to teaching-learning practices in Brazilian school education are pointed out in view of the neoliberal educational policies in progress in the country.
