The access of subjects from lower classes to Brazilian higher education, especially in public universities, still constitutes something “statistically improbable”. The objective of this study was to investigate which strategies and mobilizations of schooling were constructed by subjects from popular backgrounds to enter higher education in UEMG-Ibirité Licentiate courses. The research is of a qualitative nature and followed three stages: analysis in the literature; application of socioeconomic questionnaire and narrative interview. Among the findings, it was evident that the chosen course was not always linked to the personal desire of the student, but with the possibility of admission.
