Abstract

SILVA, Lucas César Rodrigues da  and  DIAS, Rafael de Brito. Technologies derived from the African matrix in Brazil: an exploratory study. Linhas Críticas [online]. 2020, vol.26, e28089.  Epub Aug 25, 2020. ISSN 1981-0431.  https://doi.org/10.26512/lc.v26.2020.28089.

Here we present a synthesis of a mapping of technologies derived from the African matrix in Brazil, showing that they make up a rich tradition that has, however, been made invisible by Eurocentric interpretations, which disregard distinct forms of knowledge production and artifacts that do not fit the dominant narrative about the technological development. The research is developed from the studies in Africanities contrasting the paradigms developed by Eurocentric theories and seeks to show, not exhaustively, the richness of the African matrix from its technological manifestations.

Keywords : African technologies; African cosmovision; African matrix; Traditional communities.
