Abstract

SILVA, Gabriella Moura da  and  FERREIRA, Nilce Vieira Campos. Feminine formation at domestic school dona Júlia - Cuiabá-MT (1946-1949). Linhas Críticas [online]. 2020, vol.26, e31382.  Epub Sep 03, 2020. ISSN 1981-0431.  https://doi.org/10.26512/lc.v26.2020.31382.

There were many forms of education, over time, aimed at women. In this historical text, we researched the training offered to women at Escola Doméstica Dona Júlia - EDDJ, in the city of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, between the years 1946 when the institution was founded until 1949 when the first class of students of the Domestic Course became formed. We analyzed publications from revista A Violeta that circulated in Cuiabá between 1916 and 1950 and published information related to EDDJ, such as: reasons for the opening of the school institution, type of education offered, as well as the dissemination of news aimed at encouraging the entrance of girls in the institution. We evidenced that the EDDJ proposed to educate the domestic, instructing the girls to perform effectively in the chores and daily life of the home, however, it seems that the institution did not win women to attend their classes, given that in the 1950s women were already looking for other means of study and professionalization, advancing to other formations that would allow them to professionalize, occupy public spaces and autonomy for their own sustenance and existence beyond the walls of their homes.
