Abstract

RATUSNIAK, Célia  and  CESAR, Maria Rita de Assis. “Do you know why we write? To be loved” - Foucault and the archives. Linhas Críticas [online]. 2020, vol.26, e34075.  Epub Dec 09, 2020. ISSN 1981-0431.  https://doi.org/10.26512/lc.v26.2020.34075.

The article questions the experience of researching Michel Foucault's archives, at the National Library of France (BNF). We tell how it became a National Treasury of France and explains how they are organized. Intertwined with this experience, it presents Foucault as a researcher and his forays into the libraries and his fascination with archives. It locates the sources used for some of his works from interviews, books, presentations, introductions written by himself also by his biographer Didier Eribon, his debaters and declarations by those who knew him. It builds a portrait of the researcher Foucault and his detailed work with the archives, that resulted in the theoretical production. The work received funding from CAPES – Brasil. Financing code 001.

Keywords : Foucault; Historical archives; Research with documents.
