This article shows some findings of an exploratory research that investigated how the pedagogy developed by Paulo Freire has been incorporated into articles on distance learning, examining its adherence to critical works. A content analysis was carried out in the sample based on questions established a priori. In the set of findings, the analysis suggests that the studies were developed only partially under a critical approach. One of the reasons why Paulo Freire would be present in the discussions would be related to the fact that his work offers references to discuss some very important issues to the modality of distance learning, so that it can be developed in a problematizing way.
