This article analyzes the meaning given by a community on the children’s presence and participation in the streets and the social life in a favela. The research followed two phases. The first, developed before the COVID-19 pandemic, consisted of guided walks in the region and visits to houses in the aglomerado. Later, with the protocols of social distance in place, we had a second phase in which we analyzed videos produced by children for social programs organized in the community. Our first results show that, in the real and virtual space, there is a coexistence of the effort to protect the children paired with an invitation for their participation in the favela as a familiar space
