Abstract

ACCARDO, Fábio; COLARES, Elisa  and  GOUVEA, Cristina. Childhood and political agency in Latin American collective actions and social movements. Linhas Críticas [online]. 2021, vol.27, e35057.  Epub May 13, 2021. ISSN 1981-0431.  https://doi.org/10.26512/lc.v27.2021.35057.

The article discusses the political agency of the child in collective actions and social movements in Latin America. We analyze child participation in the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST), in Brazil, and in the migrant caravan “Pueblo sin Fronteras”, in Mexico, seeking to provide empirical data that complement the discussion on political participation in the fields of childhood studies and the social sciences. Although these groups present different objectives and forms of organization, children build an identity as participants in a group through participation in mobilizations to fight for the improvement of their living conditions.
