The paper deals with a systematic review about the impacts of democratic management of public schools in the learning of students and/or in any other aspects of school work. We've analyzed papers between 2007 and 2017 from the work groups (GTs) of the national meetings of the “Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Educação” (ANPEd) and from the journals “Revista Brasileira de Educação (RBE), “Educação & Sociedade”, “Cadernos de Pesquisa - Fundação Carlos Chagas”, “Estudos em Avaliação Educacional” and “Revista Brasileira de Política e Administração da Educação” (RBPAE). A total of 140 studies were found with objectives and/or results related to democratic management and the public basic education system, from which only two measure the impact of democratic management. Even though the studies point out negative aspects of a principal's appointment by politicians and positive effects in the process of choice and election, its research desings are fragile and threats to internal validity make it difficult to infer any causal relation.
