This study aims to expose the current condition of Religious Education in Brazil, given the implementation of the National Curriculum. To this end, we present a brief history of the field and legislation that underlies Religious Education in the country. It is also our goal to list challenges this the discipline faces in the current Brazilian political scenario, especially regarding the questions of the legitimation of Religious Education. Therefore, we take as main sources for this work official documents and current legislation that directly affect the performance of Religion Education field.
