Resumen

This article proposes to discuss the work of the school director, based on the data of the doctoral thesis, defended in the Postgraduate Program in Education of the Metodista University of São Paulo (PPGE/UMESP). Thus, for this cutout, we consider the bibliographical research that takes up the writings of Carneiro Leão, Ribeiro, Lourenço Filho and Teixeira, from the classical perspective, and Arroyo, Félix and Paro, from the critical perspective. From the schools of thought mentioned, the elements associated with the work of the director were extracted and analyzed. Through this analysis it was possible to conclude that there are different positions and contradictions that permeate and guide the work of the school principal, requiring him to position himself in relation to current educational policies.
