CEA, Georgia Sobreira dos Santos  y  SANTOS, Rodrigo Severiano dos. Foundations and conditions of the polemics concerning the Kit to Combat Homophobia: from the shadows of the cave to the fight for hegemony. J. Pol. Educ-s [online]. 2021, vol.15, e79983.  Epub 02-Sep-2021. ISSN 1981-1969.  https://doi.org/10.5380/jpe.v15i0.79983.

The School without Homophobia Project (PESH) was launched in 2011 as one of the actions of Brazil without Homophobia Program which was linked, at the time, to the Special Secretariat for Human Rights of the Brazilian government. The set of educational materials from PESH was pejoratively called "kit gay" by conservative sections of society. The strong social reaction against PESH influenced the presidential veto on the distribution of its materials to schools. That dogmatic repercussion is discussed to infer sociopolitical foundations and conditions of reactionary forces to PESH materials. This theoretical study adopts a dialectical perspective of analysis, based on academic productions and theoretical-conceptual references from the critical field. Besides, documentary sources are used. It is assumed that the quid pro quo around the erroneously so-called “kit gay” weakened the educational power of PESH as well as revealed the absence of hegemony between political and civil society segments that propose public policies to face the issue of homophobia, even during governments open to the topic. It is concluded that the debate on the rights of people who break with sexual binarism and with the gender identity imprisoned has been surrounded by different conditions - economic, political, cultural, ideological - based on the historical conservatism of Brazilian society. Therefore, it is necessary to continue fighting for that rights can be widespread in society as a whole.

Palabras clave : School without Homophobia Project; Kit to Combat Homophobia; Hegemony; Gender identity rights.
