Abstract

ARAUJO, Vania Carvalho de; AUER, Franceila  and  TAQUINI, Rennati. Public policy of the full-time childhood education: notes on the perception of families. J. Pol. Educ-s [online]. 2021, vol.15, e77885.  Epub Sep 22, 2021. ISSN 1981-1969.  https://doi.org/10.5380/jpe.v15i0.77885.

This paper presents part of the results of an exploratory study carried out with 86 families from ten municipalities in the state of Espírito Santo, whose children were enrolled in 20 full-time early childhood education institutions. It aims to discuss the perceptions of families regarding full-time early childhood education. It uses the software NVivo as an auxiliary tool in the organization and analysis of data collected in semi-structured interviews conducted with the families. The results indicate that the job of mothers who work outside the home stands as the main motivation for the enrollment of their children in full-time institutions. Moreover, there is a high expectation concerning the care routines in the institution. It is concluded that a complex relationship between children's right to education and the needs of working families from socioeconomically disadvantaged classes endures in full-time early childhood education.
