This paper presents an overview of the research groups on Education Policy in Brazil, registered in the Directory of Research Groups in Brazil (Diretório de Grupos de Pesquisa no Brasil - DGPB/CNPq). Drawing from Bourdieu’s theory, it is argued that participation in a research group is essential in the acquisition of scientific habitus. The text explores the main characteristics of the 275 research groups on Education Policy and exposes some practical implications, such as the need to create new categories of participants in the DGPB, a specific item for the description of the group and the need to expand strategies of cooperation among research groups.
