This article discusses teacher illness in the Municipal Public System of São Paulo, through a literature review, quantitative data publicly available on the websitel of the São Paulo Municipal Education Secretariat (SME-SP) and consultations made in the e-sic linked system to the Transparency Portal, placing it in the scope of studies on the phenomenon in different parts of Brazil and the world. It discusses the extent of this phenomenon in the education system in question, its possible causes and consequences, as well as the current treatment of this problem by the SME-SP.
