Abstract

MORAES, Caroline Ponce de  and  PERES, Rodrigo Tosta. Reflections on performance diferences at ENEM: A socio-economic and schoolar analysis of Southeast Brazil. J. Pol. Educ-s [online]. 2022, vol.16, e85377.  Epub May 30, 2023. ISSN 1981-1969.  https://doi.org/10.5380/jpe.v16i0.85377.

This article proposes a study on the performance of students from public and private schools in the Southeast region of Brazil, who applied to ENEM 2017. The main idea is to compare the importance of individual variables, school infrastructure and educational indicators for high, medium and low performance students from public and private schools in the Southeast Region of Brazil. Quantile regression models are appropriate for this purpose. The results show that the known differences for elementary education are enhanced at the end of high school, with a great socioeconomic impact, especially for low-performing public school students. Public policies should be designed with a focus on an educational system that promotes equity, infrastructure and qualified teachers.

Keywords : Inequality; ENEM; Public policy; Quantile regression.
