Discussion about the policies of public elementary instruction as echo of the hegemonic proposals formulated in others countries. Impact of practices carried out in the Prussia, Holland, France, England, Argentina and United States in policies of education of Rio Grande do Sul, taking as categories of analysis the indices of education, the imposition of compulsory education, the practices of inspection of the education and the control of the time in the school, the charging of taxes and school rates, the prescriptions about the health and posture of the students as well as the school furniture.
