Abstract

This article examines the representations of teachers and teachers on the mandatory teaching of History and African and Afro-Brazilian culture in the school environment granted by Law 10.639/2003. Uses of Cultural Studies explanatory axis on the understanding thatthe production of knowledge is built by an intersection of narratives, which sometimescombine and sometimes refuse. Presents data collected from a group of teachers who attended the extension course entitled Cinema in the teaching of History and African and Afro-Brazilian culture in basic education. The results indicate that to recognize the subjects with social equity in educational processes requires the development of a new look and a new approach to identify the different cultures that intertwine in the school universe.
