Resumen

PIERROT, Alain. Competência, oralidade e escrita. Educação. Porto Alegre [online]. 2014, vol.37, n.02, pp.251-262. ISSN 1981-2582.

ABSTRACT: The article inquires, from the point of view of anthropological studies, whether oral competency seeks support from grammar and written pedagogy. Studies by Dell Hymes, Jack Goody and Noam Chomsky lead towards reinforcing the idea that the school explanation model is the only possible one for learning. The text argues that competencies are essencially transmitted «without words», implicitly, due to the creativity presumed in every imitation. If the rigidity is inherent to the institution of writing, its meaning cannot, however, be reduced to a submission to the political and religious orders for which it is a core tool. The article concludes in favor of the ambivalent character of writing: a tool for emancipation, as demonstrated by Gregoire and Goody, in their analyses of the use of writing in the political organization of slaves; and also for domestication, as observed in the schooling processes of writing.
